ChickP Protein Ltd announces a milestone in its recent collaboration with Portugal’s Localnutleg, an EU and PRIMA initiative. During the final project meeting last week in Lleida, Spain, attended by ChickP founders Prof Ram Reifen and Maor Dahan, Head of Research and Development at ChickP, the company secured the top prize for its chickpea snack.
ChickP’s demo application for ChickP Puffs, an innovative chickpea snack with 20% protein, took first place in a highly competitive field of 21 innovative products developed as part of the project. The products were sensorially evaluated by 140 tasters from across Europe and the results were outstanding, says the company.
The global market for protein-enriched snacks is substantial and continues to grow rapidly, driven by increasing consumer demand for healthier, functional foods. The total global protein snacks market share was valued at US$ 4.1 billion in 2022 and is expected to surpass US$ 10 billion by 2032 according to FMI.
According to Maor Dahan, factors contributing to this growth include increased health awareness and rising consumer demand for protein-rich snacks.
There is a growing interest in plant-based protein sources, including chickpea protein, which goes hand in hand with the trend towards vegan, vegetarian, and flexitarian diets, says Dahan.
ChickP’s chickpea protein isolates are versatile, non-GMO, allergen-free, and label-friendly proteins for a variety of applications, from dairy alternatives to snacks. Due to its high functionality, pure taste, and bright colour, it is now one of the most commonly used proteins in the industry when looking for a clean-label product.
At the Food Ingredients Europe trade fair in Frankfurt, ChickP will be presenting its innovative products at stand 3.0L36.
